Services for Hugh Dixon, 78, of Athens are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Thursday at Bethel Christian Church with Rev. Jim Rawlins officiating. Burial will follow in Shelby Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home.

Hugh died September 19, 2011 in Tyler.

He was born June 28, 1933 in Troup to the late Oscar Hugh and Ella Mae Haggerty Dixon and had been a resident of Athens since 1965.

Hugh started to work for Gulf States Telephone when he was 18 years old. This stint of employment was interrupted by two years of military duty in the United States Army. In 1970 he moved his employment to Contel which later became Verizon. He retired in 1992 as equipm
ent technician. Hugh was a member of Bethel Christian Church.

Three brothers preceding him in death were James Oscar Dixon, George Marlin Dixon and Raymond Ray Dixon.

Survivors include his wife Jessie Nell Dixon, Athens; son Michael Rula and wife Donna, Teague; daughter Tammy Womble and husband Chris, Athens; sister Mary Sue Cole, Tyler; grandchildren Scott Kormos, Kelli Rula, Madison Womble, Mason Womble, Monica Sandlin, Micah Sandlin, Moriah Sandlin; great grandchildren Kade Kormos, Lawson Kormos.

Pallbearers will be Scott Kormos, Scott Stovall, Corbin Smart, Bobby Oldham, Ronnie Loper, Ken Cooper.
