U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Southwest Missouri State University, in 1926, from Drury College, in 1930, from Rush Medical College Illinois, in 1934 and was a physician in the Office of the Surgeon General, U.S. Army, during World War II. After the war, he remained in the U.S. Army Reserves and rose to the rank of Colonel. Later entering politics, he was elected as a Republican to the Eighty-seventh Congress and to the next five succeeding Congresses, serving (1961-73). As a Congressman, he was referred as "Dr. No" because of his tendency to vote no on spending bills. Not a candidate for reelection, he was a member of board of trustees on the Uniformed a Services, University of Health Sciences Maryland, (1973-81). He also was a member of the American Medical Association and on the faculty of Eckerd College, Florida. He died in retirement at age 90 and his body was donated to science.
