Andrew was born in Ireland. Andrew was identified on the 1870 US Census in Guernsey County, OH living on his farm with his wife and five children; James, William, Rebecca, Emily and Andrew. On the 1880 US Census he is listed as a farmer in Madison Twp, Guernsey County, Ohio, living with his wife, Mary, and three children, William, Emily and Andrew. He died in his mid 80s in Antrim Precinct, Ohio.

The following is from "A Household Guide" by T. Williams, 1882: "Andrew Cunningham was born in Ireland in 1813. He removed with his father to Washington County, Pennsylvania, for a season, and then became a permanent resident of this county (Guernsey County, OH). On April 22, 1841 he married Mary A., daughter of Samuel Lindsey. She was born in 1822. They had twelve children; Samuel L, James W, John S, Mattie J, Robert W, William M, Rebecca E, Nancy M, Mary E, Emily L, Andrew S, and Ida A. Andrew Cunningham has always been a farmer, and has held township offices. He owns two hundred and fifty acres, and is deservedly popular."
