Verney Carolina Erion

Verney Erion, died peacefully at 8:30 PM on September 19, 2011 at her residence in Salem, Oregon. She was 89 years of age.
Verney was born on November 14, 1921 in Zeeland, MacIntosh, North Dakota. She was the fifth of seven children born to Edward and Wilhelmina "Minnie" Kilber. Her father was the manager of a grain elevator and during the devastating Dust Bowl of the early 1930's, the Kilber family moved from their home in South Dakota to Salem, Oregon.
At the age of 24, Verney married Robert "Bob" Lee Erion on February 22, 1946 in Salem, Oregon. Together they had three sons, of whom all are living- Timothy William (Robbie Sue) Erion of Salem, Oregon, Jeffrey Allen (Kerry) Erion of Plymouth, Michigan and Jack Lewis Erion of St. Charles, Missouri.
Verney is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Selma "Sally" Forgey, Rosella "Roselle" Washburn and brother Leo Kilber. Verney is survived by her sisters Violet "Vi" MacCarthy, Jean Lindquist and Marilyn Deacon. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Brian Bennett of Portland, Oregon, Melissa (Erion) Sanborn of Portland, Oregon, Kalen Jeffrey Erion, his wife Lauren and their children, Anneli Eve Erion and Miles Kalen Erion, of Coatesville, Pennsylvania, Justin Andrew Erion of Plymouth, Michigan and Beau-James Alan Erion of Plymouth, Michigan.
Shy as a child, Verney matured into an outgoing, intelligent, contemporary woman with a lively sense of humor. Verney was a wonderful, loving wife, mother and immaculate homemaker who enjoyed working in her flower gardens. Her three sons were born within 13 months of each other in 1946, 1947 and 1948. During her first pregnancy she developed a loss in hearing and stated, on several occasions, that not being able to hear everything the boys were up to, helped to keep her sanity. When her sons were young, the family enjoyed memorable camping and fishing trips, in the summer. Verney was a faithful child of God and dutifully raised her sons in the Lutheran church. She participated in the Women's Guild at her church. Verney was compassionate to the sick and lonely, sending cards and letters to them, until her health began to fail. Her personal mission was the salvation of her fellow man, asking, "Do you believe in God?".
On August 27, 2011 the family came together, with Verney, in celebration of an early 90th birthday. She was thrilled to spend the afternoon with her sons, their wives and her grandchildren. Verney was loved by her family and will be sadly missed.
