Varney enlisted for army service in the Civil War as a private, August 9, 1962, at Henrietta Township, Lorain County Ohio for a term of 3 years in Company F, 103rd Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Occupation: Blacksmith.
He was mustered out June 12, 1865 with Company F at Raleigh, North Carolina at the end of the war.
