Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2101 N. Coulter St., with Bishop Scott Modersitzki officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40.
Wendell was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was known to be a very gentle and honest man and as the best handyman in the world. Some might even say he was the best little energizer bunny.
Wendell served his country in World War II serving in the U.S. Army during the Philippine Theater. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission for the church in Missouri. Wendell was also a farmer and a government employee working for Pantex.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Barry Gardner; four siblings; and a granddaughter, Ruth Gardner.
Survivors include his wife, Patt Gardner; three daughters, Pam Gardner of Eugene, Ore., Ann Harris and husband Guy of Provo, Utah and Leza Palguta and husband Joey of Amarillo; five sons, Terry Gardner of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Mike Gardner and wife Kay of Blackfoot, Idaho, Paul Gardner of Salt Lake City, Utah, Jay Gardner and wife Terri of Jerome, Idaho, and Jeff Gardner and wife Debra of Amarillo; 28 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; other family and friends; and a sister, Thelma Gillis of San Diego, Calif.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials be to the Lost Soldier Memorial Fund.
