Albert Hachenberger was born in Lincoln, Nebraska. As a young adult, he moved to La Cross, Kansas to work at a general store. He later moved for work, to Tulsa, Oklahoma. He joined the Baptist Church and sang in the choir. He soon met a Miss E. Allene Jordan. She was from a properous family of six girls. They were married in 1915 and their first child was born in Tulsa on August 6, 1916. The parents combined both of their given names to call him Albert Jordan Hachenberger. He was called by his middle name, Jordan.
With a small but growing family, Albert needed more money. He found a good job selling lightning rods to farmers in Kansas. He was now, making $300 a month in commissions! He moved the family to Lyons, Kansas to be closer to his work.
Albert enjoyed working with his hands. He had acquired some metal working skills and was asked by a friend to repair a rifle. He spent several hours and a late night filing a part to repair that rifle. His friend was very pleased with the repair and Albert's reputation soon spread through out the county. America was plunged into war. December 7, 1941. Factory rifles were no longer available for sale, and Albert's gun repair skills became a necessity. He was an authorized dealer of parts for the Mossburg Rifle Company. He was, then, able to assemble completed rifles and guns from the parts he had accumulated. Over time, Albert sold and traded many rifles. He amassed a collection of 386 rifles. ( as told to me by Dean Hachenberger 3/13/2016 )
