Ida Belle was born June 20, 1931, to Henry and Nancy (Edwards) Hoogestraat at Milbank, S.D. She attended country school near Milbank and also Big Stone School.
On Nov. 4, 1961, Ida Belle was united in marriage to Donald A. Diers at Minneapolis.
Ida Belle worked as a licensed practical nurse at Schriner's Hospital, St. Paul, for 28 years. She enjoyed working with children and cared for many over the years.
Upon retirement, the couple moved to Howard Lake, which was Don's hometown. They enjoyed playing three games of Yahtzee every morning after breakfast.
Donald passed away May 5, 1992.
After moving to Ortonville in 1994, Ida Belle volunteered at Northridge Residence, helping in the beauty shop and serving lunches. She also worked at Too Mad Cafe, Ortonville.
Among her interests were fishing, her flowers, and reading. Her nephews and nieces brought her special joy.
Ida Belle's health began to fail in 1997, leaving her confined to her home. She entered Northridge Residence in February, 1999.
Ida Belle passed away Aug. 11 at Northridge Residence, having reached the age of 68 years, one month and 21 days.
Survivors include two sisters, Leona Hanson of Milbank, S.D.; and Betty (Bob) Barr of Ortonville; two brothers, Delmar (Imogene) Highstreet of Sheridan, Wyo.; and William (Ardy) Hoogestraat of Anoka; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four sisters and four brothers.
Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. in First English Lutheran Church, Ortonville, with the Rev. Wilfred Hansen officiating. Organist was Marilyn Hanson and the soloist was Jim Foster.
Honorary pallbearers were Ida Belle's friends. Active pallbearers were Timothy Barr, Steven Barr, David Macy, James Benshoof, Robert Benshoof, and Melvin Reinke. Interment was in St. James Cemetery at Dutch Lake, rural Howard Lake.
