Cartoonist. Famed for creating the "Ziggy" comic strip. Born Thomas Albert Wilson, the son of a coal miner, he was raised in Uniontown, Pennsylvania and participated in the band while serving with the US Army. After graduating from the Pittsburgh School of Art, he enjoyed a 35 year period of employment with American Greetings, as he advanced to president of the creative division; he was instrumental in launching the company's Hi Brow and Soft Touch series. In 1969, the "Ziggy" character was introduced in the book "When You're Not Around" followed by the initiation of the comic strip two years later, with Wilson providing words (in addition to drawing) the amusing stories reached roughly 500 newspapers, as well as books, greeting cards and calendars. In 1987, Wilson's son Tom succeeded him as being in charge of the strip.
