Nora is the eldest of eight children born to John Whitfield Hunt and Mary Jane Weems. She was born and raised in La Jara, Colorado. Nora married John Anthony Wayne Rutledge on March 27, 1905 in Antonito, Colorado. They became parents to eleven children: Joseph Wayne, Harold Earnest, Ella Jane, Marjorie Estelle, Milton Raymond, Hester Elizabeth, Howard Storey, Hazel Marie, Junior Reece, Virgil Glen, and Curtis Eugene.
Nora and John started their family in Colorado. After the birth of Harold, they moved to Albion, Idaho. After the birth of Howard they moved to Rupert. They lived in the Rupert-Acequia area until John's death in 1932.
Ten years later Nora and the two youngest sons moved to a forty-acre farm in Annis, Idaho. After Virgil married, he bought a farm next door. She had family nearby the rest of her life.
Nora died of congestive heart failure.
