Lines on the death of Wm. H. Crowell, who was killed in battle Sept. 17th

Behold how grim death has grown
In every state, and every town.
Many who in the world we know
Has passed death's cold valley through.
They've gone from us-their souls have fled,
And their names are numbered with the dead.

Wm. Crowell is one that is gone,
By the hand of death to join the throng,
Enlisted in his country's cause
To help support the wholesome laws.
He left his home, and friends behind,
A soldiers grave for him to find.

T'was on the dreadful battle-ground,
Where shell and cannon loud did sound;
That he honorably met his fate.
Doing honor to his town and state.
