Glenville Everett Smith was born on 15 Mar 1886 in Abraham, Raleigh County, W.Va., a son of George Washington Smith Jr. and first wife Emily Alice Vandall.

Glenville came from a family of 16 children. George and Emily had nine children: Bertha Jane Smith Surbaugh, Bessie Smith Arthur, Glenville Everett Smith, Wayne Smith, Arthur Jackson Smith, Ada (Ida) Smith Martin, Ola “Oley” Ernest Smith, Charles Ota “C.O.” “Smitty” Smith Sr., and Emily Mae Smith Hutchinson. After Emily Alice died from tuberculosis, George Jr. married Emma Catherine Biars. George and Emma had seven children: Pearl Smith, K. Golda Smith Fox, Eda Flora Smith Ellison, Earl George Smith, Carl Eugene Smith, Everett Abraham Smith and Ernest Sidney Smith.

Miss Gwinn was born 15 Aug 1891 in Lockbridge, Summers County, W.Va., (Shuck, Larry G., Our Families: Shuck, Fleshman, Sydenstricker, Smith, Lewis, Kincaid, Keister, et. al., of West Virginia, Gateway Press Inc., Baltimore, MD, 1995, Page 125) a daughter of Alexus Laben Martin Gwinn and wife Elizabeth Ann Stickler.

Glenville and Lucinda had 15 children. Their daughters were Elsie Virginia, Beatrice Elizabeth, Mildred Irene, Mabel Evelyn, Harriet Isabelle, Lois Edith, Madalyn Rose, Shelvia Kate and twin girls who died on the day of their birth. Their sons were George Everett, Cecil Lawrence, Basil Arthur, Glenville Muriel and Jesse Franklin. (Information from a family group sheet provided by a daughter.)

Mr. Smith was a retired C&O Railway conductor and a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. He was a conductor for 40 years. He died on 12 Feb 1952 in Hinton Hospital, Summers County. Mrs. Smith died on 10 Nov 1979. They are buried in Dequasie Cemetery, Lockbridge, Summers County.
