Harry Robert McKissick, 89, of 255 Brown's Lane, Coshocton, died July 13, 1996, at Coshocton County Memorial Hospital. He was born December 26, 1906, in Euclid, Pennsylvania and was the son of Samuel William and Minta B. (Stoughton) McKissick and stepson of Angeline (McIlvaine) McKissick. He married Carolyn Jones; she preceded him in death on Nov. 27, 1981. Harry McKissick attended school in Euclid and later West Sunbury, where he graduated in 1923. He graduated from the College of Wooster in 1927, and received his master's degree from the Ohio State University in 1938. He also continued his education during the summers at Ohio State, Ohio Wesleyan and Case Western Reserve universities. Mr. McKissick taught school in Millersburg for two years, and then joined the faculty of Coshocton High School in 1929. During his tenure at that school, he taught chemistry, physics, and English. He also served as faculty manager of athletics. From 1945 until 1962 he served as secretary-treasurer of the Central Ohio League. During World War II, Mr. McKissick worked as a chemist at the Edmont Co., and at the Muskingum Fiber Products (later the St. Regis Paper Co.) from 1946-1975. He also served as Coshocton's amusement tax commissioner for 39 years. Mr. McKissick was a member of the National Education Association, the National, State and City Retired Teachers associations, Phi Delta Kappa, Coshocton Masonic Lodge No. 96, and the Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus. He was a member of the Coshocton Presbyterian Church since 1934, where he served as a Sunday school teacher and superintendent, deacon and elder, serving on the Session for 16 years. Along with his parents, stepmother and wife, Mr. McKissick was preceded in death by a son, Robert J. McKissick, and two brothers, Clarence B. McKissick and Charles M. McKissick. His obituary appeared in Coshocton Tribune newspaper.
