US Congressman. He engaged in the importing business, was ward commissioner of Baltimore, in 1870, a member of the Maryland State House of Delegates, (1881-83), aide-de-camp to Governor William T. Hamilton (1880-84) and to Governor Elihu E. Jackson, (1884-87). Moving to Illinois, in 1887, he he engaged in the manufacture of bricks, was a member of the Board of Commissioners of Cook County, (1892-94) and assessor of South Chicago, in 1897. In 1903, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-eighth Congress, serving until 1905. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he retired from politics and died at age 75 while on a visit in New York City.
