First he married Catherine "Elizabeth" Savage on June 28, 1946 in Wyoming, De. and they had two children, Robert Burton and Darlene Doloris Stubbs.
Second, after the passing of Catherine Elizabeth, he married Nina Lorriane Ford on July 27, 1973 in the Wesley Methodist Church in Dover, DE. They had no children together.
He served in the U.S. Army as a corporal during World War II as a member of the 97th Infantry Division which advanced into Germany during the final months of the war. His division was then assigned to the occupation of Japan after their surrender for 16 months.
