He was born June 11, 1907, in Muskegon County. He graduated from Ravenna High School in Muskegon in 1923 and from the Michigan State University in 1927 with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. He married the former Evangeline M. Lacroix, Nov. 10, 1932. She died Oct. 11, 1978. He worked for the Pontiac Division of Oakland Motor Car Co., then was employed by the Dow Chemical Company as an engineer for 45 years. He retired in 1972. He was a member of St. Brigid's Catholic Church where he served on the administrative commission as an usher and was past president of the church school PTO. He was a member of the Cemetery board, a member and past grand knight of the Knights of Columbus and was on the governing board of the K of C Building Association. He served as a scout troop committee member during the time his sons were members. He was a member of People to People and had been active in the Retired Square Dance Organization.
He leaves sons, Walter L. Bennett, Jr., of Midland, Robert E. Bennett of Rochester and Thomas L. Bennett of Kalamazoo; daughter Sister Marianne, R.S.N., of Southfield, sister Louise Mark of Ravenna; 10 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
