William E. Girard of Glenside a retired manufacture's representative who had been honored for his sight-saving work, died at Brandywine Hospital in Coatesville on Monday, one week before 88th birthday. In 1979, Mr. Girard received a Chapel of the Four Chaplains community service award for activities in behalf of the Masons' Knight Templar Eye Foundation which arranges cornea transplant and other sight-saving measure across the country. He also a Knight Templar Cross for his efforts. He was a member of Masons' Harmony Lodge 52 in Philadelphia and a former command Kensington-Kadosh Commandry. Mr. Girard was born in Philadelphia and graduated from Northeast High School for boys. He earned his degree from Drexel University For almost 50 years, he owned and operated W.E. Girard Co., which represented manufacturers in the electrical field in Glenside He had resided in Glenside since 1940. Mr. Girard was a member of the Mount Carmel Presbyterian Church in Glenside. He survived by his wife of 59 years, Madeline Schmidt Girard, and a son, Richard.
