Scio-former Scio resident Edward Stepanek, 86, of Coos bay died Friday of complications of Parkinson’s disease. Born on a farm east of Scio to Ed and Anna Stepanek, he attended Bergen Hollow Grade School and Scio High School. He married Helen Roner in 1936 and they settled in Coos Bay.

Mr. Stepanek was a logger and later hauled rock. He retired in 1988. He liked gardening, hunting and commercial fishing.

Surviving are wife Helen; sister Frances Roner of Albany; and several nephews and nieces including Karen of Albany.

A graveside service for Mr. Stepanek will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Willamette Memorial Park in Millersburg. Coos Bay Chapel is handling arrangements. Contributions in his name may be made to the Willamette Columbia Parkinson Association, 1015 N.W. 22nd Ave., Portland, Ore. 97201.
