U.S. Congressman. Born in Cumberland County, Virginia, he was educated in academics, studied law, was admitted to the bar, moved to Kentucky and practiced law in Flemingsburg. He was a member of the Kentucky State House of Representatives (1843-45) and served as a Captain in the 3rd Kentucky Volunteers during the Mexican War in 1847. In 1853, he was elected as a Whig to the Thirty-third Congress and as a candidate of the American Party to the Thirty-fourth Congress, serving until 1857. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law until his death at age 52 in Flemingsburg, Kentucky.
