Ellis had many accomplishments in his life. Worked at Hotel Utah, Union Pacific Railroad, Pacific Fruit Express and he owned Mapleway skating rink and dance hall. He was a pioneer in the drive-in theater industry, owning the Park Vu, Woodland, and Ute drive-in theaters. He was the first to install heaters for every car so they could be open year round. Owned E&G Distributing Co., invented the Herbie Protecto Life, manufactured campers, owned the Water Hole (a private club), owned the Heritage, Strawberry Place, and Golden Kettle dinner and bingo clubs.
He is survived, but not forgotten by, his wife; four sons, Kay (Rita), Lynn (Margaret), David, Tarey (Shauna); brothers and sisters, Ray, Richard, Tom, Beth Frickberg, Marilyn (Ronald) Shamo; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents; one son; and one great-grandson.
A graveside service will be held Wed. Jan 10, 2001, 1 p.m. Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery/Mortuary, 10600 S. 1700 E.
