Charlie Obbie Holden, age 94, of Ocean Highway Supply died Friday, September 16, 2011 at his home.

Mr. Holden was born in Brunswick County July 2, 1917, son of the late Francis Everett Holden and Jane Long Holden. He was a United States Army veteran serving during World War II with the 808 Tank Destroyer Battalion and was a Bronze Star recipient. He retired from the Civilian Corp of Army Engineers Wilmington, NC office. He was an avid gardener.

Mr. Holden is survived by his wife of seventy years, Marie F. Holden; two sons, Charles Gerald "Jerry" Holden and wife Helen Fuller Holden of Whiteville, Steve Holden of Supply; four grandchildren, Charles Holden of Raleigh, Helen B. Holden of Greensboro, Frazier Holden of Wilmington, and Tanner Holden of Wilmington; a great grandchild Banks Holden; a sister Audrey Ludlum of Shallotte.

Funeral services will be Monday, September 19, 2011 at 11:00 am at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church with Reverend Foyd Bennett and Reverend Lonnie Varnam officiating. Burial will follow in the Georgetown-Holden Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Pallbearers will be Charles Holden, Dale Clemmons, Danny Clemmons, Don Clemmons, Waddell Clemmons, and Tanner Holden. Honorary pallbearers will be Lee Stead, Rudolph Royal, James Strickland, Carlton Cox, and members of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class.
