“Took off from Mokerang Airfield on Los Negros on a weather reconnaissance flight and intended to return to Mokerang. The weather was overcast and stormy forcing it to fly to the New Guinea mainland. Low on fuel, the crew decided to bail out. At 2:30am, the B-24's last reported position was between Long Island and the northern coast of New Guinea. The first two to bail out were the only two that survived. The fates of the other crew members are unknown.
