SIOUX CITY -- Craig D. "Rocket" Chinn, 51, of Sioux City died on Thursday morning, Sept. 15, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Kathy Wicks officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service. Craig was born in Sioux City on Jan. 6, 1960. He attended Sioux City schools and graduated from East High School with the class of 1978. He was married to Renee Bartz for 20 years. The couple later divorced.

Craig worked at Kenny Cakebread's Standard Station from 1977 to 1980. He owned Rockets Auto Repair from 1985 to 1989, when he then went to work for Frerichs Garage as a mechanic until November 2010, due to his health.

Rocket enjoyed working on building motors for race cars. He also enjoyed being the go-to man at area race tracks for mechanical issues. He would always lend a helping hand to anyone who needed his assistance. Rocket was a member of the Moose Lodge for five years, where he was active in cooking almost every Saturday night through winter months.

Craig is survived by his family which includes his special friend for the past nine years, Tina Bauer and her daughter Hailey; his sons, Jonah Chinn and Josh Bartz, both of Sioux City; his mother, Dolores Chinn of Sioux City; his two grandchildren, Jenna and Joshua Bartz Jr.; his brother, Jeff and Dennis (Sara) of Le Mars, Iowa; and his sister, Dana Nelson of Hornick, Iowa; along with many nieces, nephews, friends and co-workers.

Craig was preceded in death by his father, George Chinn on Sept. 25, 1995, and his brother-in-law, Shorty Nelson.
