U.S. Congressman. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1874, practiced law in Prestonsburg, Kentucky and also engaged in agricultural pursuits. He was commissioner of Kentucky common schools, (1882-84). In 1903, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-eighth and Fifty-ninth Congresses, serving until 1907. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he practiced law, served as delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1916 and resumed agricultural pursuits until his death.
