SUGAR GROVE, Va. -- Delbert Clifford Goetzinger, 78, died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002, at his home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ora Richardson Goetzinger. He was born Jan. 13, 1924, in Dedham, Iowa, to the late Anton and Martha Mauer Goetzinger. Mr. Goetzinger was a member of Sugar Grove Baptist Church and was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army as a master sergeant during the Korean Conflict. He was a dairy farmer in Smyth County for over 50 years. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law,
H.C. and Olyvia Goetzinger and Bill and Charlotte Goetzinger, all of Sugar Grove; one stepdaughter and husband, Doris and Jeff Ratliff of Speedwell, Va.; four grandchildren, Matilda Brewer of Morganton, N.C., and Michael, Kayla and Charlie Goetzinger, all of Sugar Grove; three sisters, Jeanette Hagedorn of Omaha, Neb., Darlene Hatchett of Pleasant Hills, Iowa, and Betty Klocke of Carroll, Iowa; one brother, Bill Goetzinger of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Sugar Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Kenny Price officiating. Burial will follow at Hutton-Cox Cemetery, Sugar Grove, where military rights will be conducted by the Francis Marion VFW Post 4667.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Flowers will be appreciated or contributions may be made to Hutton-Cox Cemetery, c/o R.G. Shupe, 5873 Sugar Grove Highway, Sugar Grove, VA 24374 or to Sugar Grove Life Saving Crew, c/o Carol Choate, 788 Teas Road, Sugar Grove, VA 24375.
