Currie R. Polk, 87, of Gatesville, Texas, passed away Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, at his residence with his family by his side. A Celebration of Life will be 2 to 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19, at Grace Gardens Funeral Home Chapel in Waco.

Currie was born in Hico, Texas, to the late Chester Woody and Helen Fay Polk. He entered the U.S. Army in 1943 serving in five major battles: Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe, receiving five bronze stars. He retired from the VA Medical Center after 32 years of service. He was a Mason for 50 years and achieved 32nd degree Mason, spent the last 30 years at Waco Scottish Rite. He was employed at Powell's Supply in Gatesville for ten years after his retirement from The VA Medical Center. He loved the outdoors and spent most of the day in his yard perfecting his gardening abilities.

Currie was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy; brothers, Wayne and Derwood Polk; and grandson, Jonathan Blanchard.

Currie is survived by his daughter, Beverly Sue McCauley and her husband, Gerald, of Waco, Donna Jean Lewis, of Gatesville, and Carol Ann Chapman and husband, Mark, of Gatesville; grandchildren, Scott McCauley, of Austin, Jason Blanchard and wife, Julie, Jasmine McKain and husband, Zach, and Kristen Chapman; great-grandchildren, Jadyn, Ethan, Alex, Erin, and Toby and wife, Jannica; and great-great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Nhara and Kaimi.
