BUSHNELL -- Bertha L. Nichols, 93, of 984 N. Jackson St. died at 6:47 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2, 1998, at McDonough District Hospital in
Macomb.
Born Nov. 19, 1904, near Wapello, Iowa, to Jasper and Rachel Bond Brown, she married Merlin L. Nichols Sr. on June 4, 1929, in Keokuk, Iowa. He died March 2, 1969. Four brothers and two sisters also preceded her in death.
Surviving are twin daughter and son, Mrs. Robert (Marilyn) Martin of Bushnell, and Merlin Jr. of Manteo, N.C.; nine grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
She graduated from Burlington School of Nursing in Burlington, Iowa.
She was a member of Bushnell United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Christian Links Sunday School class, Prairie City Women's Club, Daughters of Union Veterans, Bushnell Grandmother's Club and was past matron of the Order of Eastern Star.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Martin-Hollis Funeral Home, Bushnell. The Rev. Martha Scaff will officiate. Calling hours will be after 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Elmwood Cemetery in Morning Sun, Iowa.
