Mary Magdalene Beutler, daughter of Richard and Susannah Parcell, was born in Madison township on January 20, 1865.

On June 5, 1886 she was married to Wm Beutler of Elkhart. To this union three children were born, Martha, Jacob and Emma.

She and her husband were converted soon after marriage and united with the Mennonite church and the Holdeman congregation.

Her husband preceded her in death March 3, 1892. Emma preceded them in 1891.

After the death of her husband, she made her home with and cared for Bishop Daniel Brundage and wife, Mary. When this task was done she moved into a home near the Holdeman church, residing there for a number of years.

In the year 1910, Howard Parcell was born and because of the illness of his mother, Mrs Butler took him into her home, when he was three weeks old. After the death of his mother, she tenderly cared for Howard as for her own.

After the marriage of her children, she spent her life helping others in their distress. Of her it can truly be cause, "She hath done what she could."

In January 1939, she went to the home of Miss Hattie Bachtel, here in town, to care for her. On January 25, this year, she suddenly became ill. She had moved to the home of her daughter, Martha, and on February 27, she passed on to be with her Lord, aged 78 years, 1 month, 7 days.

She leaves to mourn her departure, one daughter, Martha (Mrs Fred Bixler) a son, Jacob Beutler, a foster son, Howard Parcell, ten grandchildren, one sister, Mrs Jacob Wider, three half-brothers, Frank Parcell of Goshen and Elmer Parcell of Portland, Oregon and a host of friends.

Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at Olive church, with Revs. Warren Shaum, Silas Weldy and David Yoder officiating. Burial in adjoining cemetery.
