June Browder Burnett, 88, of Knoxville, TN, passed away in her home at Brookdale, Deane Hill, on Wednesday, March 4, 2015.

She was born June 12, 1926 to Mary Byrd Browder Burnett and Littleberry Burnett. In 1948 she earned a BS degree in Education from University of Tennessee, and took courses toward a graduate degree at University of Miami. At UT she was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority, where she stayed active till she was about 85 years old. June was also an active member of the Bonnie Kate chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was several times a DAR page in Washington DC. Church meant a lot to her, first the Church Street Methodist and later First United Methodist Church.

She was a third grade teacher at Pompano Beach, FL, and later taught third and fourth grade in Alexandria, VA. Family was more important than anything to June, and so she returned to Knoxville and worked as a counselor for the TN Department of Employment Security. She helped many people become more employable and many others to advance in their careers.

For twenty years she worked for the State of TN as a high school equivalency teacher and counselor. All her life she did what she could for other people, especially her mother who needed her for years, and her nieces and nephews as they were growing up.

She is survived by a sister, Mary Ellen Schwalb of Morristown, six nephews, two nieces, and many cousins. She is pre deceased by sisters, Margaret Genevieve Burnett Berry, Betty Burnett Rogers Dunstan, and an infant twin sister.

Service will be held at 11 AM at First United Methodist Church, 3316 Kingston Pike in Knoxville on Saturday, March 14. There will be a gathering of friends and family at 10 AM prior to the service and a cold buffet afterward. At 2:30 PM family will gather at Kyker Funeral Home, 430 Morgan Avenue NE in Harriman before proceeding to the Gallaher cemetery.
