Mary Luella Hoover, 96, of Lancaster and formerly of Harrisburg, died June 5, at the Masonic Homes in Elizabethtown.

Born in Renovo, Pennsylvania, on April 29, 1907, she was the daughter of the late Miles and Coatney Rutledge Haffly.

She worked for over thirty years as administrative assistant at Hal Murray's Complete Auto Repair Service in Harrisburg.

After her retirement, she moved to Lancaster where she was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity and active in the sewing group and the Friday Bible Fellowship. She also was an active participant in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program of Lancaster and a volunteer at the Parish Resource Center. She enjoyed handcrafts, especially knitting, crocheting, and tatting, as well as crossword puzzles.

She was preceded in death by her husband, B. Penrose Hoover, Sr. and by two brothers, Jesse B. Haffly of Pittsfield, Massachusetts and Donald EarlHaffly of Harrisburg.

She is survived by a son, the Reverend B. Penrose Hoover, Jr. and his wife, Elisabeth Schuring Hoover of New Cumberland; a step-daughter, Cecille McFadden of Lemoyne; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two nieces, Janice Haffly Waybright of Hershey and Mary Haffly Ward of Hummelstown and numerous great nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Monday June 9, 2003, at 4 p.m., at the Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity, 31 South Duke Street, Lancaster, with the Reverend Kathryn L. Warn officiating. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity, 31 South Duke Street, Lancaster, PA 17602.
