SUSANNA HALBERT, daughter of Enos and Lucy (Garner) Halbert, was born in Pendleton District, South Carolina, on Oct 24, 1797, and died in Marshall County, Tennessee, on May 24, 1883, at the home of her grandson, Hiram F. Leonard. (Obituary, Austin Statesman, 1883; tombstone inscription). Susanna married in Warren County, Tennessee, near McMinnville, on May 19, 1814, Jesse Randolph, a son of Nathan and Hannah (Hill) Randolph, who had come to Tennessee (North Carolina) from Virginia before 1800. Jesse Randolph was born in Hawkins County, Tennessee in 1795 (1850 Census, Madison County, Alabama), and he died in Richmond (Bedford County), Tennessee, in 1858. (Family records). Jesse and Susanna Randolph left Warren County, Tennessee, soon after the birth of their first child in 1816 and removed to Cooper County, Missouri, with other members of the Randolph family. En route they stayed a few months in Southern Illinois, where their second child, Cyrus, was born in 1817. They left Missouri in 1828-1829, and were settled in Madison County, Alabama, by 1830. Their names appear in Madison County in the 1830, the 1840, and the 1850 census. They left Alabama in 1853 and returned to Tennessee, settling in Bedford County. With them was their grandson, Hiram Leonard, whose mother, Jane (Randolph) Leonard had died soon after his birth.

1) Elmina Frances M.B. Randolph, born in Warren County, Tennessee on June 4, 1816. She married Hiram Carrigan on August 21, 1834, Madison County, Alabama. (Marriage Bk. E, p. 169). They were the parents of Hon. Joseph G. Carrigan, of Fayetteville, Tennessee, William Rice, Cyrus, Susan, Elizabeth, and Josephine Carrigan. These children lured and married in Tennessee, where they left descendants..

2) Cyrus Halbert Randolph, born on December 4, 1817, St. Clair, Illinois (of whom later)..

3) Jane S, Randolph, born on November 20, 1819, Cooper County, Missouri (of whom later)..

4) William B. Randolph, born on March 8, 1820, Cooper Co. Missouri. He married Eliza Lewis, daughter of Joel Lewis, Madison County, Alabama. They had two children: Rodolphe Rolfe and Jane Frances Descendants of Jane Frances were living in Texas in the early 1900's..

5) Wiley Blount Randolph, born on October 5, 1824, Cooper County, Missouri. He married in 1848 Ruth Ann Blanton and had: Clarinda, A.C. , and Laura Alice. Laura married her cousin, Coleman Lewis..

6) Elizabeth Ann Randolph, born on December 5, 1828. She married Wylie F. Lewis, Madison County, Alabama, and had: Lavert Livingston, William Bohanon, Medna Jane, Coleman Randolph, Grant Allen, Susanna Elmina, Constant Gerome, Lucy Lockyton, and Charles Cotton Lewis..

7) Coleman L. Randolph, born on December 21, 1830. He married Margaret Moore in Tennessee and had: William Moore, Beulah, Coleman, Jr., and John Roanoke. Professor C. L. Randolph was graduated from Bethany College in Virginia and was called "the father of higher education in middle Tennessee. ".

8) Joel Thacker Randolph, born in Madison County, Alabama, in 1832. He married Mary M. Doss on May 22, 1853, Marshall County, Tennessee. (Marshall County Records)..
