Anne Mary (Burns) Bass
January 25, 1923 – September 11, 2011
Anne (Burns) Bass peacefully passed away from this world on September 11, 2011 in Hermiston, Oregon, after a lifetime filled with love for life, her family, friends, community, and the Catholic Church.
Anne was born in Spokane, Washington on January 25, 1923 to her parents, John William and Mae (Hanna) Burns. She was raised in Condon, Oregon and married Robert Woods on January 30, 1945. Bob Woods died on April 6, 1949, leaving behind Anne and their 9-month-old daughter, Teri Woods.
Anne married John Bass on June 27, 1951, and they had two daughters, Bernadette Bass and Clare Ryan. Anne was married to John for 45 years until his death on June 22, 1996.
Anne lived most of her life in the Willamette Valley, in the Portland area. She was the general secretary of Sherwood High School, and active in Catholic Daughters. After moving to Hermiston in 2001, she volunteered at Good Shepherd Hospital and was a devoted member of Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church.
Anne will be remembered for her beautiful heart and optimistic spirit, her kindness, love of life and people, her generosity and wit. She brought love and light into the world and to all who were blessed to know her.
Left grieving her loss and celebrating her beautiful soul are: daughters, Teri Woods McArter and Bernadette Bass; son-in-law, Fraser McArter and granddaughter, Kaeli Anne McArter; brother, Joe Burns and sister-in-law, Arlene Burns; sisters, Garnett Huddleston and Ethel Park; sister-in-law, Alerita Burns; cousin, John David Burns; and the many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom Anne dearly loved. Anne is pre-deceased by her son, Stephen, and her daughter, Clare, and her brothers, Charles Burns and Bob Burns.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3pm on Friday, September 16th at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church, at 565 W. Hermiston Avenue, Hermiston, Oregon. (Prior to Mass, a recitation of the Rosary will occur at 2:30 pm on Friday.) Private Family Burial will be held on Monday Sept. 19th 2011 at 1:00 PM at the Saint James Cemetery in McMinnville, Oregon.
