Dorothy Mildred (Burks) Burris, age 103, of Eldon, died Wednesday, September 7, 2011, at the Miller County Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Miller County on October 24, 1907, a daughter of the late Jesse and Alice (Barr) Burks. On September 19, 1940, in Liberty, she was married to Leslie Burris, who preceded her in death in 1988.
Those who survive her include: one daughter, Kay Fritchey of Eldon; two grandchildren, Michele Vernon and husband Randy and Greg Abbett, all of Eldon; one great granddaughter, Erin Leslie Vernon of Eldon and numerous nieces and nephews. One brother, Walter Burks and four sisters, Tracey McDonald, Leftie Bass, Lou Bass and Josie Nixdorf, also preceded her in death.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 12, at Rekus Funeral Home in Eldon. Rev. Jerry Frye will officiate. Interment will be in Eldon City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday, September 11, at Rekus Funeral Home in Eldon. Memorial contributions are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.
