She married Peter Scott on September 19, 1867 in Williams County, Ohio.

They had 10 children: George, Vernon Wilbur, Naomi C., Sarah Florence, Mary Etta, Nora Belle "Nora", Harry Christopher, Grace G., William F. & John E.

Obituary taken from "The Edna Sun", Thursday, Feb. 29, 1929:

Mary Elizabeth Skelton was born May 3, 1849 near Edgerton, Ohio and passed away at her home in Edna, Kansas, Feb. 19, 1929, age 79 years, 9 month and 16 days. She was united in marriage to Peter Scott Sespt. 19, 1867 and to this union ten children were born, two of whom preceded the mother in death. Mr. Scott passed away Jan 16, 1897.

She united with the Methodist church when a girl and hs been a faithful member through these many years.

Seven years ago she had a paralytic stroke from which she never recovered. During this time she was always cheerful and delighted to meditate on the goodness and love of her Savior. Certain passages of scripture and some of the old Hymns were a great comfort to her. She was never known to complain.

Her son, Harry, has tenderly and patiently cared for her during her long illness.

Those left to mourn her depature are, Mrs. Naomi Storm of Edna; V. W. Scott of Wimer, Okla.; Mrs. Saddie [Sarah Florence] Hendryx, Coffeyville, Kansas; Mrs. Mary Olinger, Colton, Cal.; Mrs. Nora Storm, Wimer, Okla.; Mrs. Grace Gray, Harry Scott of Edna and John Scott of Terra Haute, Ind.; one sister and two brothers; forty-two grand children and 31 great grandchildren and many friends.

The funeral took place from the M. E church at 230 o'clock Wednesday, February 20. Rev. Mark McIntosh preaching the funeral discourse. Interment in the North Edna cemetery.
