Vesta Amy Collake Rains Simpson, 98, of Chattanooga, went to be with her beloved Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at Memorial North Park Hospital in Hixson.
A native of Monroe County, she was born in 1904 and lived and worked in McMinn County until her retirement in the early 60s, at which time she moved to Chattanooga. She was of the Christian faith and was a remarkable person. Her joy came from bringing laughter to those she met and her advice for life was "Be good, do good and you'll be happy!" Her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
Waiting to welcome her to her heavenly home are her parents, William Crowford Collake and Amanda Jane Rogers; her former husband, Boskey Simpson; two sons-in-law, Willard "Cotton" Bryson and Earl Trotter; one grandson, Billy Ray Trotter; four brothers, Jack, Wesley, Lee and Charles Collake; two sisters, Bertha Garrett and Flora McConkey; and a special friend, Beulah Johnson.
Left to cherish her memory are two sons and daughters-in-law, Howard and Johnnie Rains of Kingston, and Joe and Peggy Simpson of Valparaiso, Fla.; four daughters and one son-in-law, Gladys Bryson of Chattanooga, Betty Trotter Miller and Paul Miller of Etowah, Wanda Newman of Athens and Rosell Mullins of Cleveland; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Friday in the south chapel of Bordwine Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold Curtis officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Chestuee Cemetery in Madisonville.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday prior to the services at the funeral home.
