James Aubrey "Buck" Bailey, 70, who had served with the Kelso Police Department for 24 years, died Feb. 20, 1979, in a local hospital. He had resided at 105 Cowlitz Gardens, Kelso, with his wife, Della, who survives him. He had been a resident of Cowlitz County since 1935, coming from Texas. He was born Jan. 10, 1909, in Durant, Okla. Bailey was a member of the Lower Columbia Peace Officers Association, the Kelso Lodge 1482 and the Kelso Eagles Lodge. He was a past lieutenant governor of the Kiwanis Club and a past president of the Kelso Dads Club.In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, James W. and Michael A. of Longview, and Joseph G. of Kelso; two sisters, Kitty Bass of Tucson, Ariz., and Tommy Mathews of Grand Saline, Texas; and four grandchildren. Services will be conducted by Kelso Elks Lodge members at 2 p.m. Thursday at McVicker's Chapel on the Hill, Kelso. The services will conclude at the chapel, with private entombment following at Cowlitz View Memorial Gardens, Kelso. Expressions of sympathy to the Cancer Fund are invited. McVicker's Chapel, Kelso, is in charge of arrangements.
