Marcia Virginia (Mitchell) Merritt, 96, of Denton passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at her home. She was born October 2, 1926, in Tarrant County to Jeffery William Earl and Helen Thompson Mitchell. She married William Alfred Merritt Jr. on February 28, 1947, in Fort Worth, Texas, who preceded her in death in 1990.

Marcia graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a BS, Ed. A member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and was a Nominee in the Blue Bonnet Belle Padgett. She later obtained her Masters in Special Education from TWU.

She was an active member of the St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Denton where she was an Elder and Deacon. Marcia was also very active several organizations in Denton including the Denton Benefit League, Ariel Club, Presbyterian Women's Association, Grace Presbarty, the Garden and Bridge Clubs.

Her career included teaching Texas and American History in the Denton ISD. She also taught at the Little Elm ISD where she developed and was the Director of the Special Education Program.

There will be a visitation Saturday morning in the foyer of the St. Andrew Presbyterian Church from 1:00-2:00 p.m. with a funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m. with Rev.'s Richard Culp and Lisa Patterson officiating. A burial will immediately follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton.

Marcia is survived by a daughter, Nancy Lyy and husband Paul Brandimart, son, Earl Mitchell, and wife Ann Merritt, 6 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a daughter Molly Merritt Hook in 2021.
