One of Scurry County's oldest citizens, Mrs. Malissia Castelow Davis, died at her home in the Union Community. She moved to Texas in 1873. Services were held in the Church of Christ in Ira conducted by Dr. R. C. Roberson of Abilene Christian College. Mrs. Davis was born in Lyons County, Alabama, and was married in that state to J.A. Davis on 22 April 1858. Her husband died many years ago,. She was the mother of 10 children, six of whom are living. They are - J.V. Davis, near whom she lived; Mrs. Mary Ford, Mrs. Maggie Kelly, Mrs. Edna Farley, Monroe Davis, Mrs. Hopson; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Davis moved from Alabama to Texas and settled first in Henderson County. She also lived in Lampasas and Runnels County before moving to Scurry County. After living in the Ira Community for several years, she moved recently to Union. She maintained her home near the home of her son, J.V. Davis. She had been a member of the Church of Christ since 1890.
