WILLIAM HARVEY
Funeral services for William J. Harvey, 78, of 169 K St., Rock Springs, were conducted Thursday at 3 p.m. at the Vase Funeral Home, the Rev. Kenneth Biel of the First Congregational Church officiating.
Military graveside services were conducted by the American Legion Archie hay Post No. 24. Entombment was in the Harvey Mausoleum in the Mountain View section of Rock Springs Municipal Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Boyd Lewis, the Rev. Lukas Kotsakis, John Williams, Louis Muir, William Lewis and James Stark.
Mr. Harvey died Monday, Aug. 12, at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County, where he had been a patient for two and a half hours.
Born Sept. 10, 1895 in Rock Springs, he was the son of the late Moses E. and Sarah J. Lewis Harvey, a pioneer family in Rock Springs.
A lifetime resident of the area, Mr. Harvey was a retired police officer serving with the Rock Springs police force from April 19?7 until his retirement Aug. 1, 1960. He was named an honorary Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Deputy.
A veteran of World War One, serving with the U.S. Army, Mr. Harvey was a graduate of the Rock Springs High School and member of the First Congregational Church. He was also a member of the Elks, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and the American Legion.
Survivors include one sister, Sarah Harvey, Rock Springs and one nephew. Dr. Thomas E. Utley, Clearwater, Fla.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by five sisters, Mrs. Margaret E. Wetzel, and Elizabeth Ann Utley, and one brother, Benjamin H. Harvey.
