Anna Pauline Bates Bradley

Anna Pauline Bates Bradley of Lubbock passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011, into her heavenly reward at the age of 92. Pauline was born in 1918 in Crowell, Texas, to Willis and Pallie Bates. She was one of 10 children and sixth in birth order. At an early age, her family moved to Ropesville, Texas, in 1925. She grew up on a farm with her four sisters and five brothers. She graduated from Ropesville High School in 1936 and came to Lubbock in 1937 and entered nurse's training at West Texas Hospital.
After graduation as an R.N. in 1941, she married Hershall Bradley in March of 1941. They were married for 57 years until his death on Oct. 20, 1998. During World War II, she worked at West Texas Hospital, and after her daughters were in school, she was a school nurse for 27 years with the Lubbock Independent School District.
Pauline and her family were members of the Pioneer Park Church of Christ and later became charter members of Monterey Church of Christ. She was a member of the Agape Bible Class, Texas State Teachers Association and Lubbock Christian University Associates. She attended Golden Rays on Thursday to play cards and have lunch. Every Tuesday was bridge day. She was also an excellent seamstress, knitted, crocheted and pieced quilts of which all family members have at least one quilt made with her own hands.
She was preceded in death her husband, Hershall; five brothers, Garland, Vaughn, Pierce, Gene and Bill; and four sisters, Irene Armstrong, Mary Lou Stonecypher, Vestal Tunnel and Iris Cook.
She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Yurcho and husband Larry of Dallas and Lana Dieringer of Houston; four grandchildren, Jena Atchison of Dallas, Brad Yurcho and wife Vicki of Henrietta, Betsy Yurcho McKinlay and husband Rolin of Plano, and Ben Yurcho of Dallas; five great-grandchildren, Trent, Todd, and Katie Yurcho, and Ethan and Rachel McKinlay; and many nieces and nephews.
Anyone who had the fortune to be touched by Pauline's life is a person truly blessed. She cherished life, lived it to the fullest, and was most happy surrounded by friends and family. A life lived well, a journey paved with many blessings and boundless love.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, at the Monterey Church of Christ at 3 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and following the memorial service on Saturday. Arrangements are under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to your local Meals on Wheels or favorite charity.
