Funeral services for Mr Ernest L. Coller will be held Friday at 4pm at the Christian church with Bro Gene Segroves officiating.
1/21/1965:
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon for Ernest L. Coller with Bro Gene Segroves officiating. Mrs Austin Vandament, accompanied by Mrs D.L. Cobble, provided the music. Pallbearers were Clyde Jones, Ernie Andrews, Stevie Chenoweth, G.R. McClendon, E.E. Miller, & V.T. Gannaway. Ernest L. Coller (Ernie), 72, died in the Grady Memorial hospital January 12. He was born in Clinton, Mich. After graduating from high school in Tecumseh, Mich, he worked for the Burroughs Adding Machine company in Detroit, Ford Motor Company, Studebaker Motor Company. He also worked in Canada for a time, was in World War I, and began work in Jackson, Mich for Sparks Withington company in 1919, where he was foreman in the press shop and was a master craftsman in that line of work. After World War II, Ernie became production superintendent for plants 1 & 2 and remained so until a serious heart ailment forced him into Foat Hospital for a long stay. On his return, he made chief of material control. His kindness and thoughtfulness toward his associates were absolutely without parallel. He was always going out of his way to help some one else among the men & women in the Horn Plants. His loss was keenly felt when he retired 6/30/1947. He came to Tuttle in the fall of 1947, where he married Mrs Nora B. Coller and has resided until his death. He has served as City Councilman & Mayor for several years. He was also a counselor for the Youth of Tuttle, a member of the First Christian church, Rooker Wallace Post 176 of the American Legion, a member of the Tuttle Masonic Lodge 405. He helped form the Mental Health Unit for Grady county, worked on the Tuberculosis Association, and the state Heart Assocoation Board. He also worked on this newspaper and with other newspapers in Grady county.
He is survived by his wife, a step-daughter, Mrs Loraine Alander of Flint, Mich, 2 step-sons, Jack Jones of Maumee,
Ohio and Gerald Houghtaling of Lansing, Mich. Burial was in Tuttle Fairview cemetery under direction of Sowers
funeral home.
