He graduated from Syracuse University and Berkeley Divinity school in Connecticut. He became rector of St. James in Skaneateles after a year in a mission church in Syracuse, and remained there until 1913. He had written several books including "Catholic Principles" used as a standard work in divinity schools. He also wrote the novel "Hepsey Burke".
He was in ill health for several years, including nervous trouble and sleeplessness. He also fell and injured his arm a few months before his death. He committed suicide in Columbus hospital in Milwaukee.
