Belle was the daughter of Elizabeth and Abner M. Burns. She married Jerome L Harvey in 1873. They spent their married life in Leon except for five years, 1894-1899 in Colorado.
They had two sons, Floyd who died at the age of 18, in 1892, and Harry. Belle had one brother John R. Burns of Des Moines.
Mr. and Mrs. Harvey were active in the social and public affairs of Leon until ill health over took them. Mr. Harvey was a lawyer, acting also for a time as the county superintendent of schools and serving as mayor to the town and in other official capacities. Mrs. Harvey had been a successful teacher in the public schools and was prominent in church and club work, a leader in P.E.O. circles, of which society she was a member of the Leon chapter.
