Nebraska Governor. After attending Hastings College, he graduated from the University of Minnesota, in 1931, earned a law degree at Harvard University, in 1935 and established a legal career in North Platte, Nebraska. He served briefly in the U.S. Navy, was a member of the Nebraska Unicameral Legislature, (1941-45) and served as Nebraska's Lieutenant Governor, (1947-49). In 1952, he was elected as a Republican the 27th Governor of Nebraska, serving until 1955. During his tenure, three appointments were made to the U.S. Senate, industrial developments were promoted and a tax assessment parity bill was authorized. After leaving office, he served as a delegate to the Republican National Conventions and practiced law until his death at age 88.
