Was daughter of Daniel Jackson and Mattie McMinn Fortenberry

Mary F. Granny Chandler, 91, born Oct. 14, 1904, in Haskel County, Texas, to Jackson and Mattle McMinn Fortenberry, passed away Thursday at her home in Silver City amidst a host of loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, A.H. Slim Chandler, and an infant daughter, Emma Florence. She is survived by her children, R.L. and Charlene Chandler of Silver City, Sanford and Anna Lou Chandler of Carlsbad, and Jewell and Ted Burk of Silver City; 10 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; one sister, Eula V. Vance of Arlington, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Ada Lee and Florence McBride of Silver City; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Mrs. Chandler was a faithful servant to her Lord and his church, and to her family. She was a dedicated homemaker. Her major delight was loving and caring for children. She will long be remembered for her chocolate chip cookies and, as one great-granddaughter explained years ago, making each child feel they were her favorite. Visitation was held Friday .at the First Baptist Church in Central. The funeral was to be held- at 10 this morning at the church. Interment was to follow at Memory Lane Cemetery. Curtis-Bright Funeral Home of Silver City and West Funeral Home of Carlsbad were selected by the family. The West Funeral Home director is Dudley Chandler, a grandson of the deceased. Officiating were Rod Chandler, Paul Maxwell, F.M. Roundtree and Sieve Griffith. Pallbearers were her grandsons, Rodney Chandler, Jonathan Burk, David Burk, Nathan Burk, Daniel Burk and George Pendleton Jr. Active honorary pallbearers were her granddaughters, great-granddaughters and great-grandsons, Cindy Maxwell, Sherri Chandler, Becky Chandler, Cayla Burk, Kelsey Burk, Rachel Burk, Amanda Burk, Courtney Chandler, Cegourney Chandler, Jewell Eva Gardner, Jean Marie Gardner, Jason Chandler, James Chandler, Gabriel Maxwell, Michael Maxwell and Jacob Burk. Honorary pallbearers were Vanessa Bustillos, Lupe Carbajal, Delfina M. Lucero, members of First Baptist Church of Central and her many friends. Family members selected CurtisBright/Lordsburg Funeral Homes to serve them.
