At the time of the Civil War James M. Carlock enlisted in Company I, Fifteenth Missouri Calvary, and served under Capt. John Howard of Greenfield for a period of 13-14 months, until the close of the war. Most of his service was in Missouri, and he was mustered out at Springfield. He married Mary E Tarrant on June 6, 1869, Dade County, Missouri.

Mary and James are the parents of Dr. Harry L Carlock, born September 12,1870. Harry married Fannie Fern Sullivan, a daughter of Henry G and Priscilla Parnell Sullivan, both born in Indiana. Harry and Fannie Fern Carlock are buried in Greenfield Cemetery. They are also the parents of Virgil Carlock.

Mary died at age 83 from Uremia, due to Chronic Nephritis. Lewis Morgan, Dadeville, MO is the informant on her MO Death Certificate.
