Melvina "Elvina" W Kirby married Samuel Calvin Dicus born September 7, 1817 (son of Edward and Melinda Hannah Dicus whose pioneer family came to the area in 1838 from Jackson County, Kentucky), about 1845 in Dade County, Missouri. A daughter Mary Adeline Dicus was born to them at Greenfield, Dade County in 1849.
Daughter Mary's first husband was John Nelson Stockstill (1837-1877) FAG#41804875 buried in California. She married Richard Hildebrand September 11, 1879 in Tehama County, California. They lived near or in Vina, California. Richard died February 13, 1898, and Mary passed away September 9, 1902. They had three surviving children, one being Lucy Stockstill (1872,Dadeville,MO-1967,CA) who married Perry O'Dell Thomas.
After Melvina's death Samuel crossed the plains with his stock in 1849 and settled on the Sacramento River in Butte County, California on what was known as Missouri Landing. In 1851 he returned to Missouri and went back to California in 1852 with another herd of cattle. He remarried in Missouri in 1860, and drove a herd of sheep on his return trip with his new bride Margaret Jane Fryer. Samuel died July 18, 1890 or 1899, Tehama County, CA.
