IRA - James Charles Hewitt, 84, of Ira, went to be with the Lord on September 14, 2011, at Mountain View Center Genesis Eldercare Network. He was born December 12, 1926, in West Rutland, Vt., the son of James Rufus and Zella (Bridge) Hewitt.

Mr. Hewitt served in the U.S. Army during WWII.

He worked for many years as a service manager for Potter's Garage and later at Fair Haven Dodge.

He sang in the youth choir of the Federated Church of Castleton and during his adult years was a longtime member and trustee of the Ira Baptist Church.

For many years, he was a member of the Ira School Board and the Ira Go Getters.

Mr. Hewitt enjoyed fishing, camping and working on his cars.

Survivors include his wife, Beulah (Lincoln) Hewitt of Ira, Vt.; three sons, Donald Arthur Hewitt and his wife Faye of Rutland Town, Vt., Douglas James Hewitt of Tinmouth, Vt., and Dwight Scott Hewitt and his wife Deborah of Ira, Vt.; a daughter, Dawn Ellen Mudge and her husband John of Fort Worth, Texas; three sisters, Doris Hier, Joyce Bouchard and Ruth Farnsworth, all of Rutland, Vt.; one brother, John Hewitt of Castleton, Vt.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Smith, and his parents.

Friends and family may call on Saturday, September 17, 2011, from 1-2 p.m. in the Ira Baptist Church.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. in the Ira Baptist Church, with the Rev. Eric May, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Ira.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Tossing Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
