Everett worked as a "chipper" at the Fore River Shipyard in Quincy, Massachusetts, during the Second World War. In the early 1950s he was a route salesman for InstaWhip. Later he went to work for Strathmore Paper Company in Westfield and eventually became shipping supervisor there, followed by purchasing agent. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge.
