Doris B. Swan August 5, 1937 - July 16, 2010 CANTERBURY - God called an angel home on Friday, July 16, 2010, when Doris B. Swan, 72, of South Canterbury Road, died suddenly. On August 5, 1937 she was born in Sanford, Maine, the daughter of the late Jeffrey G. and Annette A. (Dufresne) Becotte. As a young girl Doris' family relocated from Maine to Massachusetts and eventually settled in Connecticut. After graduating high school she met, and fell in love with Frank Swan. On July 5, 1958 they were married at St. John Church in Plainfield and were happily married for 52 years. For many years she and Frank ran Nutmeg Ceramics from their home in Canterbury. Doris was a very creative person which shone through in ceramics, knitting, crocheting and her many arts and crafts projects. She was also talented musically which was demonstrated in her piano playing. In addition to these hobbies she was also an avid reader. But what she loved most in her life was her family. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who cherished spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. For her, there was no greater joy in life than being part of all their events and activities. In addition to her husband Frank, she is survived by three children, Susan M. Lane and her husband Michael, of Griswold, Lawrence Swan and his wife Martha, of Canterbury and Cindy Lou Cassell and her husband Rickie, of Plainfield; three brothers and one sister, Lucien Becotte of Mass., Lucie Cournoyer of Mass., Donald Becotte of Griswold and Ronald Becotte of Voluntown; eight grandchildren, James Klewin and his wife Su Yeun, Daniel Klewin and his wife Courtney, Jennifer Klewin, Jonathan, Joshua and Jessica Swan, and Jeremy and Sarah Cassell; and three great-grandchildren, Kaylin, Jaxson and Teagan. The funeral will assemble on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at the Gagne-Piechowski Funeral Home, 490 Voluntown Rd, Griswold, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Augustine Church in Canterbury. Burial will follow in Carey Cemetery. Memorial calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the , 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492-1822.
